Robert sighed "more traveling well ain't that a peach be thou for the people thats crap and Roy knows it, all we state alchemists do now is bloody research and he has ME doing his errands. I swear I'm the fuhrers lapdog!" Picking up his briefcase and slinging it atop his shoulder Robert left the briefing room and locked the door. Central seemed quiet as of late the corridors seemed lonelier than before the invasion and the feeling of fear still rests over Amestris.
Strolling down the empty corridors and toward the front entrance Robert got to thinking, maybe he should tell Roy about there connection... or maybe that would only complicate matters, hell maybe he already knew its not like he really cared just idle thoughts. As Robert turned the corner and pocketed his keys Robert saw someone who caught his eye.

(if you were expecting someone then I'll just delete this post XD) Katsura walked right out of Central. She didn't much like even being there, but she had other things to do anyway. If she was going to shove something in the general's face, it might as well be plant alchemy. The one thing she had managed to get into the most trouble practicing, yet the most promising thing on her agenda. Sure she joined the military to help, but it seemed like there was a lot more 'reporting' and 'duties' than actual helping.
She leaned against a tree in the courtyard and stared up at the sky. It had been a while since she had visited the general, and she didn't intend to until she had to... Or she accomplished something. She tugged on a long strand of hair that fell in front of her face. If she only knew where to start...

She had to admit, she wasn't use to times of peace. Most of Jessica's military career was during war and uprisings. She had started right after the Ishbalan Massacre and was still going strong through the Rebellion lead by Fuhrer Mustang himself, and the Attack on Central. Now all that was left was the rebuilding of Central. Which only meant paperwork for her.
The Brigadier General was leaving from her office to take a walk from that paperwork. It wasn't that she was procrastinating, no. Jessica was not like the Fuhrer. She had taken care of what was do for the week a while back. It was the work to be ahead of schedule that she was working on.
Jessica wasn't hard to miss in a crowd. It wasn't that she was tall or short. It was her white hair. White hair that she had been getting since she hit her teen years and only started growing more rapidly when she joined the ranks of the dogs.
Maybe she should see what rookies she could show up (or in a few cases be the one shown up) at the shooting range. When she reached the main door someone was already there.

Robert smiled 'the Brigadier General huh? i bet she has her head in paperwork again' Robert smiled, working with the fuhrer meant he knew alot of the higher ups without having to meet them in person, maybe working with Roy wasn't so bad sometimes, 'its not that i don't like meeting people its that i just don't wanna do it' but still he plucked up the courage to walk up to the girl. In front of her he stopped and saluted "Brigadier General, how nice to see you ma'am," Formality never suited Robert but it was useful sometimes, "i would like to ask your permission to challenge you to a shootout." He smiled to himself 'I know she's good, but she ain't that good' "if you win this little game i will give you the fuhrers home telephone number but if i win, you have to come with me on a date" Thats one more good thing about being the fuhrers lapdog, you pick up a few tips in the lady department.

Well, what would you know. It's Robert Mustang. She had to admit she never met the soldier in private before. A few missions she might have lead and he was in the ranks but she didn't remember. It was impossible to remember everyone's name at Central Headquarters. But the Fuhrer's long lost brother? That one was easy to remember.
"Good day, Major Mustang. At ease," Jessica said with a smile. There was no need to be stern when there wasn't a mission that needed to be done as soon as possible. That was a time that she never smiled. This was not one of those cases.
Jessica laughed. "The Fuhrer's personal number you say?," she continued to laugh. "Do you think I don't already have the number?" This major really was full of himself. She temporarily ignored the fact that he asked a high ranking officer on a date. The other side needed to be fixed first before she thought of anything. "In times of emergency, the Fuhrer is the first to know, whether he is on duty or not. I am a ranking officer, I would know these things, Major Mustang."

"That i do not doubt Brigadier General Davis and it is so nice to see a woman of stature in this place, One who won't simply pine for the Fuhrers telephone number." Robert smiled, "if this were eastern command even the ranking officers would pine over mustang and alot of them would have accepted my challenge. Thats why i like central so sincere so needy of mustang that everyone above a Major needs the fuhrers personal number." Robert thought a little ' this could have been a mistake, oh well i have to roll with it now' Returning to reality Rob smiled at his Superior officer scratched the back of his head. Sometimes he could be just like that two bit brother of his, clumsy and arrogant.
Maybe arrogance is something that runs in his blood, but maybe it is also gained through a state alchemy exam, it appears both maybe the case. Robert knew this woman better than she might think, being the fuhrers lackey can have its benefits, the state archives are open to look at and that includes the personnel files. "Your handling of the rebellion on the western front was unorthodox but it was in my best interest that is why i wish to take you out, not personal gain or any ulterior motive a simple thanks. While Bradley was in charge the ishballans were massacred, all were labeled as rebels and my adopted father was killed. Thank you. Thank you for helping in whatever small way you could. You may not of helped the rebellion but thank you all the same. my offer is still open shooting range or not, but i heard you liked to shoot so i thought it would be fun," Robert saluted "Sorry if any offense was caused"

Such a strange soldier. That might have now been the second time she has thought that about this about him. He seemed to ramble on and on about something when he could just be getting right to the chase. Simplicity was just as good as the flowered up versions.
"Don't get me wrong, Major," Jessica started, "I can function quiet well without the Fuhrer by my side. I did get my rank for a reason." She didn't know what he was trying to do now. Was he trying to flatter her? That might have been just as bad as him trying to ask her on a date through a shooting match. He really did know how to suck up to the officers. That definitely wasn't going to work for her.
How much did this boy know about her? It was almost bothering. "Is there a rat in the archives that I should exterminate?" Jessica said being straight forward without saying any names. There was nothing in her file that she was afraid of sharing. But she didn't tolerate rats.
If this was during a briefing or shortly after or before. Robert might have had a very angry alchemist on his hands. But he was lucky and all she was out for was for entertainment. Perhaps the shooting range was good. Though, him knowing this was still unsettling. "I am a better alchemist then a shot. You would have more of a challenge if you challenged General Hawkeye."
She didn't forget his flattery though. The major was a few years younger than she was. Not that it was obvious with how she kept herself. "Are you trying to seek my assistance on your own personal gain. Or are you trying to ask me on a date?"

a sensation ran up Robert's spine, 'is this fear?, no thats not right... What is it?' The only way to describe this emotion was Awestruck. This woman was powerful not in a military or a physical way but she had a very strong character. she actually made Robert feel small and insignificant, that was very difficult to do, the only other situation he could think of that was similar is how Hawkeye can make Roy feel, so many times has he witnessed the fuhrer being undermined by a GENERAL it was absurd!
Eventually Robert plucked up the courage to reply. "I am trying to thank you Brigadier General, my personal affairs are well known throughout the military and mostly they have been resolved. So now i have made it my personal mission to thank those who helped resolve them. Why else would i offer to work as the fuhrers lackey? Most of the time i just bring him beverages and fix his dry cleaning for heavens sake," Robert sighed "perhaps i was mistaken to try and thank you as i did." Robert wasn't one for feeling embarrassed but Jessica had an effect on him today. She actually calmed him down, made him see sense.
"Your rank is highly deserved ma'am, that i do not doubt and i have stepped too far, but perhaps when we're off duty i could take you out, only to say thank you. Nothing else. No funny business just a simple thank you. But as i said before i do not mean to offend, please don't think I'm doing this for anyone other than myself, and i hold myself fully responsible and will face the consequences of my rash actions." Robert ran his fingers through his hair and sighed, maybe he was more like his brother than even he could imagine.

Even when she wasn't working she scared people. If she had a motive behind talking to this soldier she might have been worried about that. But this was only friendly talk, and he was trying to get ahead of himself. What Robert got was what he was asking for. She wouldn't regret doing what she did.
"If you are thanking for the Rebellion, then you know not of what I actually did." Jessica began walking out the door. She waited just outside waiting for him to follow. If she she was out for a walk, she was going to walk. She didn't mind having some company though. And if he played his card right, she might join him at the shooting range.
She wasn't a child any more. Her little skill at shooting wasn't impressive anymore. The boys thought it was fun that a girl from the mansion down the street would come down all dressed up and fancy and could shoot up some of the privates or security guards. But that wasn't true anymore.
"You don't need to be getting defensive. I just don't deserve any thanks. Especially from a Ishbalan Liberator." This she expected to get some bad reactions to. But she didn't want thanks from someone she didn't deserve to. Back then orders were orders. She took them seriously and went straight through with them with little remorse. As any shoulder is suppose to do.
Jessica smiled. "But if you wish to join me on my walk. You are free to do so, Major."

The Major relaxed a little, he was used to the name calling thats what he was in actuality, an ishballan liberator. A man inside the military who wanted to help the opposing side, that didn't mean he didn't follow orders, he was a military man first an ishballan's son second, alchemy was just an easy means to an end, start at an OK rank and work up. That was before he found out who his brother was but thats another story.
"I would be glad to join you on your walk ma'am, i have some time to kill before i am to report to mustang on the recent meeting so i will come with you," Robert smiled maybe Jessica wasn't so bad she seemed rather relaxed for one of the higher ups, at least for one of such social standing. "May i ask if you do still feel like a friendly competition?, between colleagues"

Jessica was just intimidating. That was all. She appeared to be in her early twenties and she was already a high ranking officer. Only two positions where held after her before the Fuhrer. She was actually nearly in her thirties, and just like the Fuhrer, she had yet to marry. She was more about her duties in the military then outside. Though, the rest of the Davis family tried to betroth her to one of the guests at the parties.
At least not all of the military hated her, or feared her. But then, Robert was getting her good side today. Everyone else got her bad side, or was a ranking officer. Then, she might be scary. This was the brother of the Fuhrer she was talking to. Whether they had been together all their life or not. The personality did deal with genetics.
"Between colleagues? You are getting comfortable speaking to me I presume?" She wasn't entirely offended but it was true that Jessica was far higher rank than he was. He was the Fuhrer's brother or not, that didn't mean he could get too relaxed while on duty. That was the first mistake soldiers make. On duty, formality must stay. "I am Brigadier General Davis, not a colleague of yours, Major Mustang."
A smile did not break from her face though. She was stern, but not out right mean. "But, I accept your challenge."

Robert Smiled widely, he missed the shooting range, which is strange bearing in mind most of his alchemy (in a offensive sense) was firearms based. Respect was something he had been brought up on but maybe not in such a stern sense as Jessica but believe it or not he did respect the higher ups. Especially his brother. Sure they didn't get along brilliantly but he was the fuhrer and he did have the respect of the whole military and quite rightfully so. "Brigadier General you are remarkable you know that," Robert bowed slightly in a mark of respect "now let us get to the shooting range, I'm in the mood for a competition"
Robert lowered his case from his shoulder and carried it by his side walking calmly toward the shooting range. The cold harsh walls of central command seemed a little brighter all of a sudden

He was still a kid it seemed. She didn't know what he wanted from her at all. All of it was in a nervous code to her. First he was asking her out, then he wanted to thank her for something she did nothing with, now he wants to have a friendly shooting game. During this time he had went from being intimidated, to being too relaxed, but up to being overly proper.
She was thinking too much. Just let the Major do what he wanted. Jessica knew exactly what she wanted, that was to get out of the office for a while. That was what she got. If she wanted to do more, she had to roll with the current. This current had a few twists and branches off of it though.
The two of them walked out out of the main building and toward the shooting range. On the way she pulled one of the soldiers on the way to the side. The formalities were fired off quickly just as any soldier would, especially to her. After a short conversation the soldier was running off into the building again.
There was a reason why she had the soldier get her rifle compared to getting it herself. And the reason was going to be apparent very quickly. They never knew when to be quiet.
"I hope you don't mind an audience, Major," Jessica said with a smile.

Robert stared in disbelief 'an audience, thats... thats absurd' It wasn't that Robert doubted his ability the only person he had ever met that could out shoot him was General Hawkeye herself, but he never worked well under pressure, unless it was truly necessary of course, but this was ridiculous. "Of course not." Robert coughed. This simple stroll had turned into something strange, 'damn my compulsive nature'
Robert continued to walk toward the shooting range, and as they arrived sure as the day is bright there was a rather large group of soldiers of both high and low rank, young and old, male and female. It was bizarre, amazing even that the brigadier general would have enough influence to in just under five minuets have a crowd waiting to see who would win! "Shall we begin?"

The soldier Jessica spoke to before came back up to her. He held up the old tattered case. She thanked him as he melted back into the crowd. Her father's old hunting rifle. It had been a while since she had used it. There were much more deadly, alchemy enhanced weapons that military used. But this was friendly and all they were going to be shooting was targets across the way.
If the competition became heated enough, she would switch to a military issued weapon. But for now, this would do. "Are you worried, Major?" Jessica asked. She walked over to the range and started to put together the old rifle.
There was nothing he really needed to worry about. Her aim was only deadly when it came to long range and that was only because of her use of the crystals to enhance her aim. Closer it was just muscle memory, and when it came to pistols, she just hoped that it hit.
